Nigerian actor Richard Mofe Damijo, widely known as RMD, has shared his belief in the potential of John Dramani Mahama, the National Democratic Congress’ presidential candidate in Ghana, ahead of the 2024 elections.
Speaking to Doreen Avio on the red carpet of the 2024 EMY Awards in Accra, RMD urged Ghanaians to prioritize the country’s interests when choosing their next president. He emphasized that voters should select the candidate who genuinely has the people’s best interests at heart, stating, “They should vote for the best man, the man who has your back. Not many people on the ballot can say they have your back, but I believe Ghanaians know the one who does.”
RMD expressed personal support for Mahama, sharing that he likes the former president and hopes Ghanaians will give him another chance. “I like Mahama,” he said.
When asked if he was personally acquainted with Mahama, RMD clarified, “I’ve never met him. But every time I pass through the airport, I remember that he built it, and many of my Ghanaian friends have spoken highly of his contributions. I think Ghanaians should give him another chance to see how far he can go.”
The upcoming elections, scheduled for December 7, 2024, will decide the next president of Ghana and its new Members of Parliament. Mahama, who served as president from 2013 to 2017, is seeking a return after losing his re-election bid in 2020.
Other candidates in the race include Mahamudu Bawumia (New Patriotic Party), Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen (Movement for Change), Christian Kwabena Andrews (Ghana Union Movement), Daniel Augustus Lartey Jr. (Great Consolidated Popular Party), independent candidates George Twum-Barima-Adu, Nana Kwame Bediako, and others.
