Asiedu Nketia Criticizes ‘Micro-Minority’ Leader Afenyo-Markin: ‘You Can’t Teach Us Democracy.

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has responded to remarks made by Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) caucus leader and Member of Parliament-elect for the Effutu constituency, regarding democracy and post-election conduct.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, December 13, Mr. Afenyo-Markin criticized the NDC leadership, urging them to rein in their supporters accused of causing disruptions at collation centers. He described such actions as harmful to the democratic process.

In a sharp response during his own media briefing, Mr. Asiedu Nketia criticized Mr. Afenyo-Markin, labeling his comments hypocritical in light of allegations of state property invasions and looting by youth aligned with the incoming NDC administration.

“I heard my junior brother Afenyo-Markin, who, having rejected the position of Minority Leader, is now on his way to becoming a ‘micro Minority Leader.’ He is bragging that he belongs to a party of the rule of law and all that,” Mr. Asiedu Nketia remarked.

He added, “We in the National Democratic Congress don’t need lectures from Afenyo-Markin about democracy at all. Indeed, if there were any lectures on impunity, we would invite him as our lecturer.”

The NDC Chairman further advised Mr. Afenyo-Markin to focus on addressing the internal challenges within his party rather than criticizing the NDC.
