GFA to Restructure Black Stars Backroom Staff Following AFCON Qualification Failure

Ghana Soccernet reports that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to dissolve the entire Black Stars backroom staff after the team failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Under head coach Otto Addo, the Black Stars missed out on the tournament for the first time in 20 years, finishing at the bottom of Group F with three wins and three losses from six games.

Last month, the GFA conducted a lengthy review of Otto Addo’s technical reports following the team’s disappointing performance. While the FA announced plans to consult external experts before making a final decision on Addo’s future, sources suggest the entire backroom staff will be restructured.

Otto Addo, who signed a three-year contract in March, now faces an uncertain future, with further updates from the GFA expected soon.

Despite the setback, the Black Stars remain focused on their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification campaign. After four matches, Ghana is tied on nine points with Comoros in Group I and sits in second place. The team will face crucial fixtures against Chad and Madagascar in Matchday 5 and 6 next year.
