Coders Who Travel Inc., a global nonprofit organization that supports experts from advanced countries in traveling to developing nations to inspire and enhance the careers of computer and mathematical programmers, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Catholic University of Ghana, located in Fiapre, Sunyani, in the Bono Region.
The signing ceremony, held on November 26, 2024, was led by Coders Who Travel’s founder, Afia Owusu-Forfie. She was joined by the Vice-Chancellor of the Catholic University, Prof. Daniel Obeng-Ofori, along with representatives from the Faculty, Student Representative Council, and other university leaders.
During the event, Ms. Owusu-Forfie moderated a session that featured presentations from various experts on topics such as Artificial Intelligence, LinkedIn profile optimization, design management in agribusinesses, and R programming in agriculture.
In an interview, Ms. Owusu-Forfie shared that Coders Who Travel will continue to expand its offerings, adding more topics and providing monthly or bi-monthly coaching sessions for students. “Our first meeting was an introduction to what we have to offer. In the coming months, we plan to move beyond knowledge sharing to include practical examples from various fields,” she explained.
Ms. Owusu-Forfie also expressed gratitude to her team for their contributions, highlighting the transformative experience for those who typically remain reserved in the tech industry. “It was inspiring to see them step out of their shells and share their knowledge and experiences,” she added.
Aside from her work with Coders Who Travel, Ms. Owusu-Forfie is also a Lead Scientist (Associate) at Booz Allen Hamilton Inc., a composer, and vocalist. Last year, she released “Ngosra No Bubu Nkonnua,” a Twi version of her album “The Anointing Breaks The Yoke.” She attributes much of her career success to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Her recent visit to Ghana was also to honor the memory of Nana Yere Agnes Afua Serwaa Ababio, the late wife of Osahene Kwaku Atekyi II, Chief of Kukuom in the Ahafo Region. At a funeral thanksgiving service on November 24, she performed “M’aba Wo Nwunu Ase,” a song by Apostle Dr. Opoku Onyinah, the fifth chairman of The Church of Pentecost.
During her visit, Ms. Owusu-Forfie launched the Nana Yere Legacy project, a tech initiative in memory of the late Nana Yere Agnes. She reflected on her childhood visit to Kukuom, which held deep personal significance for her.
“I am grateful to God for guiding me through this journey. It is with His strength that I was able to face my fears and take on this trip. I give Him all the glory,” she concluded.
