The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has made a major breakthrough by arresting a man who impersonated one of its top officials to defraud millions from Kenyans. Kennedy Ochieng Agutu was apprehended at his hideout in South C and is currently detained at Kilimani Police Station.
Agutu’s scheme targeted high-profile individuals, including government officials, by falsely claiming they were under investigation for corruption. He would then offer to “resolve” their cases in exchange for substantial payments.
The EACC has reported a concerning increase in imposters posing as its detectives, with over 350 cases recorded in 2024 alone. These scammers have established fake EACC offices, particularly in Kakamega, Bungoma, and Busia counties.
