“There’s no need for fear or panic; the NPA assures that we have sufficient LPG supplies.”

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has confirmed that the country has an ample supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and does not foresee any shortages, urging the public to remain calm.

According to the NPA, the LPG inventory as of October 9, 2024, is sufficient to meet nearly two weeks’ worth of national demand. Additionally, the Sentuo Oil Refinery is actively producing LPG to support daily market needs.

The NPA also noted that over 20,000 metric tonnes of LPG is scheduled for delivery between October 21 and 27, 2024, as part of the LPG Tender program.

The authority explained that a recent supply issue was due to challenges faced by the Western and parts of the Central Region, which receive LPG from the Ghana National Gas Processing Plant in Atuabo. A power disruption affecting natural gas processing has impacted LPG supply from the plant.

In response to the situation, the NPA directed LPG Marketing Companies (LPGMCs) to source LPG from Tema for their retail outlets in the affected regions.

“On October 8, 2024, we confirmed with the Ghana National Gas Company (GNGC) that the power issue has been resolved, though the Gas Processing Plant is not yet operating at full capacity. Regular production is expected to resume by October 15, 2024,” the statement noted.

The NPA also addressed concerns about the ongoing boycott of the Quantum LPG Terminal and Tema Multi-Product Terminal by some LPGMCs, which has increased pressure on other depots in Tema. The refusal to load from these terminals limits daily LPG volume from the Tema depots.

The NPA reassured the public that there is no threat to the country’s LPG supply and no imminent shortage. The authority is collaborating with all stakeholders to prioritize LPG loading for the Western Region to alleviate current challenges.
