Jeffery Oppong Peprah James, Chief Executive Officer of VW Ghana and President of the Automobile Association of Ghana, has expressed optimism about the prospects of the automobile industry. He attributes the positive outlook to Ghana’s growing economy and stable political environment, which have been key in attracting foreign investments.
Speaking at the launch of VW’s new Amarok car in Ghana, James highlighted that while there are challenges, local car assembly is playing a crucial role in supporting the sector’s growth. “It’s been a very good journey in Ghana, and we are confident the years ahead will be equally positive for the industry. With more cars coming in each year, the continuation of local assembly plants in Ghana will allow us to produce quality cars right here,” he said.
He emphasized that the sector has been a significant source of employment and will continue to contribute to the country’s economy. “Ghana’s production industry has received substantial support from local authorities, helping it become one of the 40 fastest-growing commercial productions globally,” he noted.
The growth of the automobile industry also presents opportunities for local manufacturers and suppliers of auto parts. As vehicle production ramps up, the demand for domestically produced auto parts is expected to rise.
Though electric vehicle adoption in Ghana is still in its early stages, with limited infrastructure and interest, there are indications that the market for electric vehicles is growing.
